About Us
The Harborlight Show Chorus is a
group of energetic women who sing four-part harmony, a
cappella (without instrumental accompaniment), in the
barbershop style. We sing for the fun, for the camaraderie, and
because we love performing and competing in friendly rivalry
with sister choruses.
Our Director
and Music Team
Adele R. Penkul, Certified Director, has directed the Harborlight Show Chorus,
previously known as Northshore Chorus, since 1980. She has an extensive classical
background in piano, theory and harmony. Adele's on-going
music education continues with courses through the
University of Arkansas at Little Rock sponsored by Sweet
Adelines International. She is presently pursuing status as
a Certified Arranger in the International Music Arrangers
Program. She lives in Lynn with
her husband, Stan, and best-boy cat, Smokey.
The Music Team is comprised of the Director, Assistant
Director, and Section Leaders. The team members produce and
present learning audio tapes for new songs. They run
sectional rehearsals, review practice tapes, and help the
chorus members learn the repertoire. Adele often consults
the other Music Team members concerning the musical
direction of the chorus.
Our Board of Directors
The Board of Directors consists
of six officers. They are Gloria Dooley, President; Diane
Sponholtz, Vice President and Treasurer; Robin Schevis,
Assistant Treasurer; Linda Field, Recording Secretary; and Anne
Mielcarek, Corresponding Secretary.
Chapter of Sweet Adelines
International
The Harborlight Show Chorus is a
chapter of Sweet Adelines International, a worldwide
organization of women singers committed to advancing the musical
art form of barbershop harmony through education and
performance. This independent, nonprofit music education
association is one of the world's largest singing organizations
for women. The international membership numbers nearly 30,000
women. Sweet Adelines International began in the mid-1940s in
Tulsa, Oklahoma; today, it encompasses more than 1,200
registered quartets and 600 choruses.
Every chorus is an asset to
its local community, providing an outlet for public service in
both the private and business sector. Sweet Adelines offer
their talent for entertainment at community and charitable
functions. |
